Tea Time



We are all in the mezzanine now sipping tea. Libero Paolella (CAN),

who has managed to avoid me thus far, has been forced out of 

politeness to sit down with me. He is 5-8 right now. One game

yesterday he lost by 2 points. Both opponents had 3 bingos. He

claims he misplayed the ending and blew the win. Adam, who 

is listening here, says it would be less of a problem if Libero

would leave himself enough time at the end of the game. Adam

is now giving him advice on why to use less than 2 minutes per turn.

I'm sure he'll give details to whoever asks. In a game today he

won 467-449 against Yvonne Lobo (BHR). He got lucky. He had 6

vowels on his rack, played off 3 and kept OEI. He then

picked up DCYN to go with then and with the G on bottom corner of 

board, he made a play worth 104 points: DECOYING 

(anagrams to GYNECOID, says Adam).



Cheng Wui Pui (MYS) is forced to sit with me now. He has won 6 games.

He is aiming for the top half: not a bad goal. This is his first 

Worlds. His teammate is Raja Fuadin Abdullah. Raja has only 3

wins, but there is time yet. We will lock Nyman and Edley up in a

room and give Raja a run for the cup! They come to the Worlds solidly

SOWPODS as they use both dictionaries at once. Raja lost many games

by less than 5 points each.



Jim Nanavati has just lost 570-279 to Adam Logan.  He said he is

always intimidated by the prospect of playing Adam.  His attitude was

elegantly described by Jim Geary as similar to that of a deer in

headlights.
