Round 17

A very good lunch was consumed down the hall and we are all back in our
places with bright shining faces.

I think the tenseness is contributing to accuracy problems. Charlie
Southwell, Laura Klein, Paul Avrin, John Chew, and I were trying to
straighten some of them out before this round began. These errors
matter, because if a mistake is carried on for several rounds, that
means several other people get affected. In one case today, a 10-point
adding error meant the difference between a player playing  at Table 4
or 5.

I'll take this moment to discuss lunch. I had the opportunity to sit
with a table full of players from Kenya and Ghana. I learned so many
things! Stanley Njoroge Ndungu, Shafique Thobani, and Gitonga Nderitu
(all KEN), and Anaga Takyi Yawo (GHA). They told me about words they'd
challenged, like the time that one of them challenged EYE! Yawo has not
been feeling well these past few days. He says he has malaria and his
eyes and joints hurt, among other things.

Joel Sherman (USA) did not beat Matt Graham (USA). 576-327. I see
TRANCETS, NApOOeD on the triple lane for 76. He played EGOTISE in a
previous game with Joel and in this game he played EGOTISED with the D,
both times for bingos. Joel is a bit disgusted. He knew it was going
to  a bad day today--how was he ever going to win 8 games in a row?! An
umoveable object (Joel) met the invincable force (Matt).
