Qualifying in Nigeria

As announced by the President of the NSF in January 2005.

Modalities for qualifying to represent Nigeria at 2005 WSC:

The NSF Technical committee at a meeting held on Jan 25th 2005 resolved as follows ;

  1. That there will be only one WSC Qualifier (QF) Tourney to be held in the first weekend of July 2005. Only Twelve(12) players will be invited to play in the qualifier.
  2. That before the WSC qualifier, we envisage to play some National Open tournaments, and only players who would have participated in at least 50% of these Tourneys and would not have fallen below 16th position on the rating list as at the end of June (Just before the list of invitees for the QF is released)will qualify to be invited.
  3. That winners of all the National Open tournaments (Or winners of the Masters Category) would be invited to the QF, the remaining players will be selected from our National ratings as at end of June 2005.Four reserve players may be considered for invitation from the rating list just in case any of the invited players fail to show up.
  4. The qualifier will be an 18 games tournament. The mode of play shall be 11 round robin games and 7 KOH games.
  5. Qualifiers will be selected as follows:

    • No.1 qualifier shall be the winner of the June QF provided he does not fall below the top five on the ratings after the QF
    • No.2 qualifier shall be the No.1 ranked player on the National ratings list as at the end of the QF.
    • No.3 qualifier shall be the No.2 ranked player on the rating list after the QF

    Please note that rankings 1,2 or 3 shall continue to shift downwards depending on the positions of No.1, No.2 or No.3 Qualifiers on the National Ratings

  6. That two reserve players will be selected and placed on the waiting list for the purpose of replacement b/4 travelling.
  7. All players are hereby advised to affiliate with their different clubs in order to obtain their licenses, prior to the 1st Tourney of the year.
