Prizewinners will be paid by credit transfer after the contest so please ensure you have details with you of a bank acccount that your prize can be paid into.

Rules

WSC 2007 will be played for the first time under WESPA Game Rules. The dictionary of reference will be Collins Scrabble Tournament & Club Word List, and as in 2005, unsuccessful challenges attract a 5 point penalty for each word challenged that is found to be in the dictionary.

There will be a 24-round modified Swiss tournament, starting each day at 8:00 A.M. The top two players will contest a five-game final on Monday 12 November beginning at 10:00 A.M., with closed circuit coverage to an audience.

In the first round, no two players representing the same country will be paired with each other. The freely available tsh program will be used and the pairing system that will be used is described in its online documentation.

Venue

Please see the venue page for information about the Taj President Hotel. If you are staying at the hotel, you should fax your reservation form no later than 21 September 2007. It is your responsibility to make your own travel arrangements, including booking accommodation. As of 13 August, 7 of the 20 rooms being held for our group have been taken. If you have questions concerning the hotel, please contact Ms. Amruta Mohite as directed on the reservation form.

Meals

We will be providing buffet lunch and two servings of coffee and tea for all contestants and officials during the Championships. If you have specific dietary requirements that might not be met by a large buffet, please let us know. No other refreshments will be provided but there will be water stations in the playing room.

Publicity

We would be grateful if you would co-operate with requests for interviews etc. from now on and including the event.

Visas

If you are applying for a visa, some official forms require you to give the names of Indian residents as references. We are advised that it is not necessary to complete this part of the form, just to note where you are staying. If your Indian embassy rejects your application because of this aspect then please contact Philip Nelkon, who will arrange for the names of Indian references to be made available.
