How to Register for the 2013 WSC

Each country is allocated a number of places based on its past performance at World Championships. Each country's national association establishes rules for qualifying for those places, typically based on national tournament ratings or performance at qualifying tournaments. Qualified players and alternates should follow the instructions below to register with the organisers of the 2013 WSC.

Player Registration

Qualified players and alternates should use the online registration form to register with the organisers of the 2013 WSC and to submit biographical details for publicity purposes. The form requires a password; please contact your national association representative or contact John Chew (poslfit@gmail.com) to obtain it. A list of players who have registered will be posted as soon as a few players have registered, and updated regularly until the championship begins.

National Allocation

The provisional allocation of places based on the 2011 WSC is as follows. If a national association has posted its qualification system online, it should be linked below; if not, please send its URL to the webmaster.

Notes

  • Nigel Richards qualifies automatically as defending World Champion, and is not included in New Zealand's quota.
  • Andrew Fisher qualifies automatically as the 2011 runner-up, and is not included in Australia's quota.
  • A World Youth Scrabble Championship winner will qualify for a wildcard place not included in the above.
  • The host country will be allocated two wildcard places, plus the right to provide the alternate player; these are not yet included above.
  • Gambia has a recognized National Association, has not competed in the past, but may do so this year.
  • At present, countries wishing to participate for the first time must form a recognized National Association and hold a qualifying tournament involving at least six participants. We reserve the right to ask for back-up evidence in case of doubt.
  • Should any country be unable to take up its allocation, please be considerate and decide and inform us before 31 July 2013. There will be a reserve on standby from the host country to ensure even numbers. There are a number of extra countries, not shown above, who have enquired about competing for the first time. If your country has not already done so, please confirm the name and contact details of its official country contact for further communication as soon as possible.
  • We reserve the right to contact countries to establish that they fulfil the criteria for sending a team to the Championships.

Dropouts and Alternates

If one of the players already named drops out before registration at the event site, then they should, if possible, be replaced by a representative from their own country.

If registered players do not turn up at registration, or drop out during the tournament, then they will not be replaced other than if the numbers are odd when the official host country alternate will stand in.

If players drop out having begun the tournament, they will be replaced by the official alternate.
